Night of Remembrance

The annual Night of Remembrance service is sponsored by the Miscarriage, Infant Death & Stillbirth Support Group and the Pregnancy After Loss Support Group in conjunction with Women & Infants Hospital. Bereaved parents will receive a special ornament in memoriam of their child(ren) and the opportunity to hear their names read aloud.

When: Annually on the Friday before Thanksgiving at 7:00pm in the Women & Infants Hospital Auditorium.

Parents, relatives, friends, and caregivers are all welcome. Respectfully, no children.

Quilt project

The Miscarriage, Infant Death & Stillbirth Group and the Pregnancy After Loss Support Group have a wall quilt project to memorialize our babies. An 11 x 11-inch square of fabric can be decorated with cross-stitch, embroidery, fabric paint or ink, applique, or any way you wish. Please leave a 1-inch seam allowance all the way around the square for sewing the quilt together. In addition, volunteers are available to assist in designing or creating a quilt square for you.

Annual candle lighting

Two Candle Lighting Events

The Compassionate Friends, a bereavement self-help organization, sponsors a worldwide candle lighting each year on the 2nd Sunday of December. In every time zone around the globe, families and friends will light a candle at 7pm in memory of a beloved child of any age.

October 15th is nationally recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. In observance of our little loved ones we've lost, family and friends are encouraged to light a candle in memoriam.

Memory box

The death of a baby, whether before birth, at birth, or in those first days, weeks, or months, is unlike any other loss. To honor the baby, and in heartfelt sympathy for the parent's loss, Women & Infants Hospital in Providence R.I. provides memory boxes to hold mementos of a baby's brief life such as pictures, blankets, footprints, etc.

If you would like to help Women & Infants Hospital provide comfort and support to families who experience the heartbreak of the loss of a baby, please donate a memory box. Each $25.00 donation provides one of these beautiful memory boxes to a bereaved family.

VOLUNTEER

The Miscarriage, Infant Death & Stillbirth Support Group and the Pregnancy After Loss Support Group are always in need of volunteers to assist us throughout the year.

Examples include:

Responding to emails or returning phone calls: Getting back to those looking to learn more about our support groups.
Annual Night of Remembrance: Volunteers are needed in preparation for and on the night of our annual remembrance service. See service details under Events & Programs.
Spanish-speaking support: We are always looking for Spanish-speaking volunteers to assist in responding to families and facilitating meetings.
